Toby and I both got to spend most of yesterday snuggled up at home, avoiding the "wintry mix" that blew through the area. No, we aren't the kind of people who are scared of sleet and snow, or even driving in sleet snow - we're scared of insane drivers. There were over 100 wrecks in the Nashville area yesterday, and two interstates were shut down due to accidents. I was not about to take Mini Cooper on the roads.
Anyway, we learned that snow days are so much better when you aren't pregnant. On a normal snow day, we would have gone sledding, followed by drinking red wine in front of the fire. On a pregnant snow day, I worked and wrote thank-you notes, while Toby shuffled about listlessly and watched movies. We did get out to walk Sadie in the snow, but she didn't really seem all that impressed. Next winter, Toby can hold the baby at the bottom of the hill while I sled down it and drink red wine (maybe even at the same time).
Today we woke up to discover that the snow has been covered by a nice sheet of ice. Sadie is much happier, because she LOVES ice. Toby's marathon training run was cancelled, so he tried to go out and run on his own, until he realized that his feet weren't making any indention in the snow, because it is COVERED WITH ICE. So he's going to Home Depot instead. You can assume he makes it home safely unless I let you know otherwise.
This all seems a little depressing, but I'm pretty sure that one day soon I will miss the days when I was stuck at home with pretty scenery all around, nothing pressing to do and nobody crying or spitting up on me. So I think I'll drink some hot cocoa and enjoy the calm before the real storm. :)
